Wesley Church Centre has recently started hosting monthly Open Table services. Open Table was established in Liverpool at St Bride's Church and is an ecumenical movement that aims to create safe sacred spaces for LGBT+ Christians and all those who seek an inclusive church. It is an opportunity for people to explore their faith whilst knowing that they can come as they are. You can find out more about Open Table by visiting their website: http://opentable.lgbt
Excitingly, Wesley is the first Methodist church to be hosting Open Table services. The services are organised by a steering group which includes some members of the Wesley congregation and of other churches. Valuable support is provided by Revd Neil Stacey and Revd Dr Christine Dutton. Services are currently being held every 2nd Sunday evening of the month at 6.30pm. We share in worship and communion and after the service we enjoy a time of fellowship with homemade cakes and refreshments.
We promoted the establishment of Open Table Chester at Chester Pride earlier in the summer and were met with an overwhelmingly positive response, especially from those who had in the past been made to feel unwelcome by the Church. This has given us a strong core of worshippers attending our services. The invitation extends to all, to come as you are!
