Oakmere Methodist Church is a small traditional chapel serving the area around Delamere Forest. It is used for worship and fellowship, and can be hired to individuals and groups for retreats, quiet days, meetings and social activities.
At the end of February 2025 Oakmere Methodist Church ceased to meet for worship on a Sunday morning. Now we are considering the future of the building and its potential as a Mission project.
Oakmere could become a place for Forest Church and Forest School.
It could become a folk music hub training in music genres to be taken out into rural communities.
It could become a Training and Prayer Centre where Christians and others are invited into safe space for learning and courses.
It could become a meeting place for isolated people, rural communities, farmers, possibly with a rural Citizens Advice Centre.
It could be others or comes to nothing.
Action Plan.
Rev'd Gordon Gresswell will be at Oakmere M.C. every Monday beginning March 17th 2025 between 11.00 am and 12.00 noon for prayer and idea sharing.
This is to listen to what God is saying, if anything.
A time for discernment. A time to be silent and a time to speak.
This is an invitation for any who maybe interested in discerning God's will, for those eager to pray for our Circuit, Ecumenical Partners and Communities.
This will take place every Monday until June 2nd 2025.
The chapel itself is a small sanctuary, which comfortably seats around 50 people, with traditional pews. It is a well maintained building and has a warm and welcoming feel to it. There is a good sized hall, with tables and chairs for social events, lunches, space to do various activities. The kitchen is well equipped, with modern units and worktop. It has a large water boiler, and all the necessary requirements for groups serving refreshments, or simple meals. To the front and left of the building is a well maintained garden, with shrubs at the front and a large lawn at the side. A pathway down the right hand side of the church leads to a fenced and gated prayer garden, with benches, and space to think and reflect and relax. This garden is sheltered on one side by the rear of the chapel building, and on two sides by the beautiful Delamere Forest Park. There is a pebble driveway with space for about 6 cars, with more room in the layby in front of the boundary wall for cars to park.
