The Uniting Church in Garden Lane is a Local Ecumenical Partnership between the Methodist and United Reformed Churches. It is a traditional chapel established in 1880 for the Methodist Church. Worship has continued uninterrupted on this site since. The church has very strong links with the local community and is considered as being at the heart of what is now called the Garden Quarter. Worship is usually at 10.30am on Sundays with occasional afternoon services at 4pm. The Christmas Carol Service is traditionally held in the evening at 6.30pm on the Sunday before Christmas with participation by friends from the wider Garden Quarter Community. Holy Communion is celebrated once a month usually by our own Minister on the first Sunday. Visitors are always ensured of a very warm welcome.

The church has comfortable seating that can easily accommodate congregations of up to 50 people for formal worship. The communion table and pulpit are in an elevated position, with our two-manual pipe organ, built in the local area in 1936 by Charles Whitely & Co, immediately behind the pulpit. Formal seating can be increased to around 70 to 80 if required. The seating is unfixed and the area can quickly be transformed into an informal setting with tables for social events such as coffee mornings and lunches. There is a smaller meeting room to the side and there is a modern fully fitted kitchen, well equipped with a large gas cooker, dishwasher, microwave oven, fridge and instant boiling water for teas and coffees. There is a serving hatch opening into the church. The kitchen is regularly inspected by Local Authority Inspectors and we have a Food Hygiene Certificate, Level 5. We have a modern toilet with wash basin and baby changing facilities equipped and compliant for disabled access. We also have an additional facility outside but fully undercover. Access via the main entrance in Garden Lane has a step up but access from the side entrance in Plum Terrace is suitable for wheelchairs. There is street parking only, outside the premises.

We have regular monthly community coffee mornings on Saturdays raising over £2,000 each year for local charities. Several local community groups use the church each week and rooms are also available for hire. For rates and availability contact the Church Secretary, Alan Johnson on 07751 357060. The Minister for the church is Reverend David Goodwin who is also the Minister at Caldy Valley and Hoole. To contact the Minister regarding baptisms, weddings, blessings and funerals, please call 01244 313826.
